Goals

IESP aims to generate and provide scientific knowledge and cross-cutting expertise to tackle the current Earth System crisis, focusing on:

Climate and Energy

Water and Food

Biodiversity

Social inequality

IESP distinguishes itself by its large-scale long-term view on the various earth crises, as well as by its ambition to build bridges between science, society and political decision makers. We will accomplish this goal by organizing workshops on various issues, inviting representatives from different backgrounds, including scientists, politicians, business people, students, and interested lay people.

Mission

IESP wants to ensure a safe future for humanity by helping to preserve the current functions of the Earth System through the following activities:

Establishing a network of scientists who actively contribute to a sustainable future. Contributions may entail participation in workshops, publications, and public outreach that are focused on finding and describing solutions to the Earth System crisis.

Providing intellectual input to improve models on scenarios for a sustainable future and actively constructing new models.

Initiating new research projects that shed light on potential pathways that help preserve today's Earth System.

Generating platforms - such as workshops, conferences, and expert groups - to discuss and help implement the most promising solutions.

Synthesizing scientifically-based solutions to global problems, and communicating them to the public and politicians.
